List of <things> (I want restaurants, but why limit ourselves?)

[ad_1]

Hi everyone!

I’m a long-time WP user (since 2009!) and have a travel blog which I maintain. I’m looking to add some functionality but am finding it hard to find the right plugin. Maybe one of you has heard of/is using/ has built something I could use?

**What I want:** A facility to list local restaurants I’ve been to, including my comments and some meta-data (price range, cuisine, photos, address, etc).

1. I don’t want these to be posts because I don’t want to mix them up with my existing travel posts. Technically, I’m asking for a separate database for restaurants (Ok, ok – a separate table in a database, if we’re being finicky 🙂 )
2. I would like a separate RSS feed that is built based on the latest restaurants. This would then be used to populate a section of a mailing list. I’ll happily use any other tech – doesn’t have to be RSS – but I’m familiar with RSS which is why that’s what I’m thinking of. The mailing list is MailChimp, if that’s relevant.
3. I also want to then be able to display these restaurants on my site. I figure that with the previous 2 points, I can display stuff in a page, but if there’s a specific way of showing them that’d be cool.

Any ideas?

  1. Just create a Custom Post Type. Just Google “Custom Post Types in WordPress”. There are dozens of plugins to do it if you don’t know how to code. You can either use custom fields to store your metadata, or you could use Taxonomies depending on your exact needs.
