Hello beautiful people!
Just completed making a website on the block editor for a relative.
I think we have come a long way. I think the block editor is mature enough to make such types of websites…
This website was made using GeneratePress + Addon by Spectra (love their wireframes) + Greenshift (for animations and query) + Otter (to add animation to default gutenberg blocks).
Had to disable some features of all these plugins to make the block editor a bit clutter free.
I switched from Themeforest themes, to generatepress… Developers at themeforest theme just abandon their themes after a few years… Also needed a lightweight theme.
Problem faced:
1. Took some time to learn how Generatepress premium works. Fell in love with the hooks…but I had to become more plugin dependent because the theme itself has very less features in comparison to themeforest themes. Also, the themeforest themes have most of the settings in the customize section..maybe blocksy would have been a better option for someone coming from Themeforest.
2. Limited header options and had to learn some custom css to add basic things…honestly, someone like me who has barely any knowledge of css and html… Did it.. but was time taking…
3. Default Gutenberg block editor is a bit limited if you ask me… But thanks to addons like spectra, greenshift, and otter… I can be supercharged… I didn’t used other builder since I believe that this default WordPress editor is the future now.
As a newbie designer, it would be really appreciated if developers and designers come to a common builder like Gutenberg and offer sections, templates, wireframes etc like greenshift and spectra addons are doing.
Apart from this, I did speed optimization of the website, essential SEO, and writing.
Do let me know your thoughts on this…
