What is the best practice for using something like Main WP to maintain client websites? Do you keep it on your own company / portfolio site, or do you install it on a separate domain that doesn’t have a live site on it? Which do you prefer?

I have no experience with MainWP, but if you use it to manage client websites I’d definitely install it on a seperate domain and add additional server-side authentication (like .htpasswd).
Your company / portfolio site like has a number of other plugins, so that increases the security risk.
