Making a (personal) web serial as a hobby in the format of a specific site

A few days ago I was trying to see which format best fit a story I’m writing. I decided a web serial blog was what I wanted to go for. I have no prior experience in WordPress, but its the route I’d like to take.

I’m taking inspiration from Wildbow’s web serial, “Worm”, specifically. I like how he formats his site, such as the chapters having their own posts, Table of Contents as a side panel you see while you are reading an installment, and a Cast List you view in a separate page.
I’m wondering what he possibly does. What templates that are possibly in use, etc. Thanks in advance!

  1. The website is just using regular posts with regular categories, nothing special. The TOC list in the sidebar is just the categories widget, the chapters page is just a post with a order list of post links. The cast page is just a regular page. Also, the theme is Twenty-Twelve or an older default theme.

Basically, there is not much to it, just start and experiment, you’ll figure things out as you go along.
