I should start by saying I have a pretty good job in IT and am not in a huge hurry to leave where I am. When I do move on I am pretty confident I want to do WordPress development. My current job consists of many responsibilities on top of web development so building websites is only a small part of my job.
On to my question. What WordPress specific skills will help me make as close to a lateral move salary-wise as possible? What kind of skills separates a junior from a senior developer? Being real about the situation, this move would make me happier but I still have a family to support.
I do make my own basic plugins and have a few using shortcodes. I’ll start with one thing I know I need to learn. GIT. Up to now I just make the changes I need to on a development site and then copy the code to the live site.
Any advice would be appreciated.
