Hoping for some help. What I want is a nice, clean menu which will just contain 3-5 items. Can be in vertical or horizontal format, but I don't want any buttons. If the menu needs to expand, it should be on mouseover or single click of the top item.
But WordPress keeps giving me these hideous buttons on our newly-created website (shown here with an empty menu in the 2024 theme, though I've verified that they reappear in e.g. 2022):
I've taken a look at the code generated in the browser, and they're definitely part of the menu subsystem in the theme.
They get even uglier (because offset) when a menu is populated:
In the editor, they look completely different – in fact the whole menu does:
I've tried deleting and recreating the menus, with no joy. Deleting the menus altogether works to remove the buttons, but then I have no menu. Any ideas?
