Move WordPress site

[ad_1]

Looking for a helping hand. I’ve been ask to give a helping hand to a college student. They have been tasked to do some updates on a WordPress project. What I would like to do first is to move the WP site to my private webserver so we can “mess” without worrying about doing anything to the live site, etc.

The website is on Godaddy. We have downloaded a backup of the site. I have copied the file structure to my server and imported the database into SQL. I have also modified the wp-config.php for the new SQL server, database, user name, and password for our server.

However, when I try to access the homepage of the site for the /wp-admin page I just get a browser error that “redirected too many times”. Note: I also went as far as changing the site URL in the options table in the database.

If anyone has any ideas of why we are getting this redirected error, we’d be most appreciative.

Thanks in advance.

  1. The easiest way to do it is with a dedicated migration plugin, e.g. All in One Migration or WP Vivid.
I don’t even try to migrate sites manually, because those migration plugins make it so super-simple and fast.
