Multisite configuration question

[ad_1]

I am looking at revamping our organization’s WordPress installations. Currently, we have the main org site as a network install:

I then have 50+ plus sites in that network:

.

.

I want to move the primary site to its own standalone install, but then want to also keep the other sites in their own large network at the same domains. It’s been a long time, probably ten years, since I set this up initially. Will the main network site be okay not being at [https://subdomain.example.com](https://subdomain.example.com)? Can it be something like [https://sites.subdomain.example.com]) and still have the sub sites at the URLs I showed above?

  1. I manage a multisite install that has had up to 25 sites. Why not leave the main network site on the same sub-domain and use the Redirection plugin to redirect all traffic to whatever domain you specify?
