My cancelled wedding website

[ad_1]

Hi, I've been building my wedding website this year. I was a hobbyist WordPress aficionado not so long ago and I decided it would be fun to make a wedding website using the latest WordPress features. So I created a twenty twenty four wedding website using Gutenberg (would have been great to have that years ago). You can find it at https://21settembre.wedding (be advised, it's in Italian).

Sadly, due to an unfortunate family situation, we had to postpone our wedding (not sure when yet, but at least next year). So I thought I could use this time to make the website even better (and change domain, of course) and ask here for tips and suggestions. Would you like to check it out?

I really like the idea of having a captivating animated homepage (this is where I want it to shine) and I want it to be a mobile first experience as I think most people will be navigating through it by phone. I have some animations built into the building blocks. Do you know of any plugins to take the animations to the next level? I really would like to make the flowers "come to life" but I don't know where to start looking.

  1. Congratulations on the eventually upcoming wedding!

Maybe it’s a cultural thing; I’m not reading an entire website for someone’s wedding. I’m either coming or not coming.

  2. Awesome design, it looks really smooth.

My two cents, as I have also done a website for my upcoming wedding lol

And I have used something called lottie animations. They really do add some life to the website. They are basically animated svg graphics.

I’m too shy to share it, as I couldn’t invest a 100% of my time and abilities. I could make it way better but I don’t really have the time.

Anyway you could also add simple things like whole sections fading in, video backgrounds, preloaders. Though these might impact SEO or performance, they really improve the overall feel.

Awesome work. I really like it.

  3. Hey there. One thing i find odd is that you let people invite themselves. But then again wedding in Italy are different than in the US or even Germany. Here people get offended that you didn’t invite them but i sure would not let people register add their food preferences, bringing a small clan, and all the kids I could find and then you order all the food and only half of them show up. Or worse. Wedding crashers show up. Lol.

Again could be cultural and I don’t know how you “verify” it all.

Another thought, IMHO, the wedding website is nice to let people know what you need to start your life together. Depending on customs you might get things that you just have no need for but people insist. This is a great way of preemptively let them know that you already have a set of gold rimmed heirloom dishes, but could really use a new oven.

The other things that might be helpful is to share images of your wedding and collect them from the various attendees. They can upload the image they took of the festivities. And here is the opportunity to let them know to take pictures of not just you, especially if you have a photographer that does this for you.

Things of that nature. But keep it simple, your great-aunt needs to be able to use it too 😉

  4. I think you might be looking for motion.page

It will give you a highly interactive page like having a user interface for the gsap library in WordPress

Slider revolution can also be used for certain things but I always found the interface hard to get the hang of. It does way more than sliders.
