My images are showing up blank in the media library and on my site

[ad_1]

I’m a WP beginner and I have literally just started my site today. The very first thing I tried to do was upload images and they are all blank. Here is everything I’ve done and all the troubleshooting I’ve tried:

**Site setup:**

1. One-click WP install on Hostinger
2. Tried to point my domain, made a request with the previous provider, it is now pending and will take 5 days
3. Tried to install an SSL certificate to force HTTPS. It didn’t work because I don’t have the domain yet. I only did this because they did it on the random Youtube tutorial I was following, maybe this wasn’t necessary.
4. Installed a [theme]) I bought from Etsy
5. Added my social media icons in the theme editor
6. Uploaded the images – they are all blank.

**Troubleshooting:**

1. Following [this tutorial]), I deactivated all plug-ins, it didn’t make any difference (all now reactivated)
2. I activated a default theme, it didn’t make any difference
3. I tried to install the demo content for the theme to see if those images work, using Tools > WordPress > Install importer > Run importer. All of those images are also blank.
4. I’m too scared to try the other things from the tutorial article since my site is a brand new install and I don’t want to mess with settings I don’t understand and potentially cause other problems.

I’m not a back-end person, I barely made it through the above steps alive. Any suggestions?

  1. I’m betting this is an SSL/HTTPS/domain-related issue.

Go to the Media Library, load up Chrome DevTools and look in the console tab. It’ll tell you the cause of the broken images.
