Hey Everyone… I need some help figuring out what our options are as far as potentially migrating a website over to WordPress. A little context:
I am involved in running a national sports team in Italy, but am based in the US. We currently have a US based site running on Squarespace which handles more of our National team content and an Italian site running on WordPress that covers some National team content but a lot more of the local club matches, news, etc. We are beginning the process of consolidating in to one, and I am having trouble determining what route to take. We have outgrown Squarespace and need more functionality and the Italian page looks very amateur.
We want the functionality of WordPress’ CMS. Once the site is built, we want to be able to post news stories, score updates, etc. without having to build or edit pages constantly.
Originally, I was looking at Webflow as they offer CMS and I understand HTML and CSS, so I found design to be relatively easy… but ease of use for everyone involved might lean more towards WordPress as I wouldn’t have to custom design every component like scoreboards, schedules, etc that something like Sportspress plugins can already do.
We have someone who offered to help and uses Elementor, but my two concerns are 1. the website is now tied to Elementor and 2. code bloat. I have read it’s not great, I’m not techy enough to know whether it would really be an issue, so I defer to all of your expertise. I want the control of say Webflow as far as design goes, but in the end the ease of use WordPress when updating content.
That was a long way to get to my actual question, what is my best options for this? The flexibility in design to make the site look just how I want while running through WordPress. Is there a general theme that is best so I can maybe avoid Elementor? Are my concerns about Elementor unwarranted?
