Long story short, I’m 23 with no previous experience but started a job in which I need to completely redesign their site.
I’ve been looking at all the tools and resources online and have a vague idea of how to build a site, but I have a few worries.
We’re hosted on Siteground and I’ve looked at the staging function, but everyone always talks about copying the original site and then tweaking it in staging. Our site honestly needs a total redo, it’s got shit design shit layout and lost pages not linked on site but that come up on Google. Can I build a fresh site in staging and then replace our domain with that?
Also what’s migration and how does it work?
Sorry I know these are probably really annoying and basic questions but I’m rly stressed about this and could use any help.

Yes with wordpress its possible to develop your website with staging. For migration use all in one migration plugin or if you have cpanel there is option for website back or server access get a tar backup.

Yes !

If you want to start from fresh, the objective is to move your new wordpress site from your local environnement to Siteground when it’s ready.
Wordpress has a lot of plugins available for free to do that (Duplicator, WpVivid, …). It’s better to follow a tutorial for the plugin you chose but that’s pretty simple to use. Migration plugins usually create a “package” for your site, that you can move to another environnement or domain.
(sry for my english)
Hey, if you need help building a site as a no-code developer. Here is my guide (and also my process). Check it out, you might find it useful 😊

You can rebuild in a fresh install, there are some advantages and disadvantages to consider. How much of the content is getting pulled over? Does it contain custom post types? exporting posts, featured images etc, can be a task, you’ll want to have someone walk you through it.
If the site needs a full redesign, start with mock-ups not building.
On siteground, repointing the dns of an existing domain is a little tricky, since it needs to be removed from the existing site in siteground before it can be used for the new installation. You might want to consider building in staging and then overwriting the live site in place rather than repointing, unless the DB is such a mess and there’s too much stored in your media library that it makes more sense to start with a clean build.
Feel free to DM me, and I’m happy to walk you through some of the basics.
Just outsource your work to an Indian and go to sleep. Probably what the last guy did lol
Your boss needs to hire a real web developer. This isn’t your problem even if it’s technically your job. It’s not your company

It’s pretty straight forward.
Success.
As others have said just create a staging site and migrate the pieces you want over to the new site.
Or take the nuclear option and delete the old site, install the one click WordPress install and go!
