New Layout Removing Widget Contents and Settings

[ad_1]

Apologies if this is a basic question. I've been chucked in the deep end at work, and have to maintain a website I'm woefully unqualified for. I have basically no relevant experience. It's… not ideal.

I'm on WordPress.org 6.5.5 if that helps. I'm not allowed to update it. I'm not sure why.

Anyway, I've duplicated an existing layout, in order to move around/delete some widgets. These widgets
display fine on the existing layout. (There's simply too many of them, hence wanting to make some changes.)

However, when I preview pages with this new layout applied, all the settings and contents for these widgets have been removed, leaving the page essentially blank.

To be clear, this is before I make any further changes to this new layout: it's simply a duplication of a working layout, and otherwise untouched.

What gives? Is there an area where I have to input widget settings/contents manually for every new layout?

Thanks for your help, and respect to all of you web devs, because so far I feel like a clown running across a minefield with this.

  1. First of all make sure you have admin access.

Second,I understand you duplicated the layout but where? In the same WordPress website or you started a new one?

I am guessing you have a page-builder plugin issue. There are many plugins for building pages. The only way of editing the existing pages is that you open the page with that plugin. When you log in to the back of the website, on the top of the page there is an option to edit the page with the page builder. But first you have to figure out which one was used to design the pages. Search for WordPress page builders list then compare them with your plugins. There are lots of training videos. Watch the page builder tutorial videos.
