New Site Loads Very Slowly

[ad_1]

Hi all.

I’m setting up my first site and have it hosted on a small AWS ec2 instance running Ubuntu. I think i’ve gotten the instance basically stood up (have no yet tacked ssl), but am seeing the site load very slowly.

The initial document loads in about 100ms but the four subsequent requests for .js and .css files take over a minute. This, along with the fact that the apache2 “it works” page loads very quickly, leads me to believe this is an issue with the wordpress instance. Additionally, the server looks to have plenty of available resources – htop shows 0% cpu usage and about 500MB of the 1GB of memory used.

This all seems strange though as i’ve done nothing to the site itself other than install wordpress. Due to timeouts I can’t even get wp-admin to load to update any settings.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot here?
