New To WordPress. I Have Some Questions.

[ad_1]

Hi,

I’ve spent a few days here (read the entire FAQ) and elsewhere reading about the options with WordPress. A few questions remain…

1. I have a web host already. Updated to 6.5.4. The host has the Twenty (TT2,TT3, TT4) themes pre-installed.
2. My site will primarily be an informational B2B site. Pictures, text, a demo video (hosted by YouTube) describing the product, specs page, contact form. No e-commerce.
3. I really want this to be low maintenance. Minimal plugins. I will give up cutting edge functionality for minimal maintenance requirements…but still want it to look like a modern site.
4. I have a subscription to Envato / Theme Forest, but have no problem spending $$$ for a good theme / builder / template that will meet the requirements above. I can find very suitable themes/templates in virtually every place I look, because our needs aren’t that specific.
5. I’m \*not\* a PHP/CSS developer.

**Is a theme / template something that requires regular updates? Are some known for being light and efficient?**

**What do you recommend for my path forward? Thanks for any advice you can offer.**

  1. This looks to me like you need a simple theme and a handful of pages.

If it were my project I’d start with one of the core Twenty-whatever themes, hardly matters which one.

Install an SEO plugin like Rank Math straightaway. The SEO plugins present a thing called an XML Site Map to Google and other search engines, and it helps get your site loaded properly into their search data.

I’d create the content as a bunch of pages. Write the copy. Upload the product images etc and build them into the pages. Upload the video, or embed the YouTube video, or whatever.

Figure out how to make the menu on the site do what you want.

Disable comments on your pages. Unless you like spam or have time to figure out the Akismet plugin.

Get the information in the site looking like you want it to.

Then experiment with various themes and customizations to make the design pop. You should be able to try different themes with your content.

You need an SEO plugin, and a backup plugin. You may need a low-end form plugin if you want people to enter contact information on the site. Or, just give your email address if that works for you.

  2. If I had to build a minimal brochure type of site, I’d probably go with Elementor + Astra. Maybe even add the Starter Templates plugin to speed things up a bit with the design.

It’s not as good as some other solutions, but it should be more than enough with some tweaking.
