I’m a new user to WordPress and I was asked
to update some pretty simple stuff and while looking around found the comments section. There were some comments referencing prostitution and how to go about soliciting the service.
I spoke to the site admin and it said it was bots and to simply disable the page.
I think they used “Gravatar” to allow the comments. Does this come with the WP starter pack (lol) or someone has to initiate Gravatar? Could this be some sort of breach or security concern?
Just want to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

If you don’t want comments on your WordPress site install the plugin called “Disable Comments”. Then you won’t have any more, ever.
If you do want comments, but want to avoid spam comments, that’s harder. Akismet is one tool that helps, and there are others too. You can also restrict who can comment by adjusting settings in the WordPress settings: Settings>Discussion
I require a commenter have an account, which requires they confirm via email. So the bots try to create an account but don’t seem smart enough to actually confirm the email address. Which means after 10 days I just delete all those accounts with no confirmation.
