Newbie – fixing existing site and found malware/redirect spam

[ad_1]

TIA. My first client (yay) was after some simple content updates to their site. Once I got into it though looks like something is corrupt. Homepage keeps redirecting to a random spammy site, is extremely slow when I do get in, and I’m not able to inspect any of the theme files like index.php to check if there is anything in there, each time I try to update wordpress version or check the files it says page not found.

Any advice? Have requested from client the hosting login to see if I can check from there.

  1. I can’t help you but will come back if you get an answer. I’d like to know in case I have this issue later

  2. In nearly every case, it’s because plugins weren’t kept up to date or nulled software was used.

Install Wordfence and run a scan.
