[Newbie] Seeking advice on building a Facebook-like social network with WordPress

I’m a complete beginner when it comes to web development, but I have a dream of creating a niche social network using WordPress. I’ve heard that WordPress can be a great option for building social networks, especially for someone like me who’s just starting out.

Basically, I want to create a platform where people with shared interests can connect, similar to Facebook but focused on a specific topic. I’d love to have features like user profiles, friends or follower connections, the ability to create and share posts, comment and like functionality, groups or pages for subtopics, and private messaging.

I know WordPress has a ton of plugins and themes available, but it’s a bit overwhelming for a newbie like me. I’m not sure where to start or which ones would be the best fit for creating a social network.

I’ve seen plugins like BuddyPress, PeepSo, and Ultimate Member mentioned in passing. Do you folks have any experience with these or other similar plugins? Which ones would you recommend for someone just starting out?
