Theme has been updated but still not working as I’m sure you intended.
This is a completely new/fresh install with zero plugins and hosted by WPEngine.

That’s odd – I can’t replicate that on either my local installation or the demo site, which are both running the latest version of WordPress and 0.3 of Poe.
Can you check that you don’t have a custom “Home” template set on Appearance → Editor → WordPress logo → Templates? Also, if you have the Gutenberg plugin active, try deactivating it just in case.

Yes, it appears I did when trying to change the homepage.
I’ve now created a new page using the default template and this has now made the news page work.
However can I now not edit the homepage to make it my own?
I think I’m OK now.
