  1. For the icons, I didn’t use any plugins—just added URL-encoded SVGs directly in the Image block.

  2. i’m also trying out wordpres after a long time. it’s really cool to see powerfull and easy to use the block editor became. also developing custom blocks.

  3. This looks great. I love block editor. I suspect that 99% of the people who complain about it never learned how to actually use it.

  4. You can also add custom styles to each block. I always end up adding a few flavors to the typography so its super easy to add a “lead” or “callout” to paragraphs, or special lists, etc. Then with ACF you build out your own blocks for those advanced layouts or needs and boom, you got a stew going!

  5. Now hand it over to a client to make pages and edits. Talk to them about inserting a block and setting evening up, how to insert columns and rows, how to select whatever color they want and resize a photo to fit. They will look at you with glossy eyes.

  6. I have a few questions for you. I know can build complex layouts with it but how manageable is that? Im thinking since I know I can code so therefore im not afraid of complex or difficult, but how easy is that to manage (fuck up/understand) by clients? People who only edit this once a month at most? How many will need support because they “messed up” and the block needs to be fixed? The target audience is the driving factor not the editor. We know the DIY space doesn’t care what editor they use at large (wpbakery, divi, elementor…, exist for that reason)

IMHO only a designer or advanced DIYer actually wants to play with new layouts, the rest will want to achieve a goal like “display this information on my site’ or ‘update the pricing table on my companies website”. Making a block like that seems too complex a task for this. It takes more time than it should.

How semantic is the block output? (The last time i did this I encountered divception.

How do you version this, since the layout info is now saved as part of the page (html comment). So when i want to change the block i now must do that manually on all blocks (too bad i used it 76 times). In my experience that isn’t going to happen so you’ll encounter mismatched designs. Bad for the business.

This to me seems like a new method of messing with layout using tables. I know I can do that in tables but should I?

How do you address or deal with this?
