Not renewing a site – what happens?

Hi

If you have a site which you have installed WP on but then do not renew it what happens to everything on it? (installation-wise, plugins, content, emails etc) if someone then buys it as an expired domain.

Or more to the point…

When you don’t renew a site, should you delete everything on it or will that happen automatically?

Any guidance appreciated.
