A website I’m working on had a serious plummet in viewership back in month not long after having it’s best month in its history.
I’ve been trying to figure out what caused it and how I can fix it to encourage users to the website again.
This happened back on March 7th around the time a big update to Google occurred and almost over night I went from being a really successful site, getting 3-4k views a day to <500 a day. It feels like it’s getting worse rather than better as well even with extra effort.

I came to the conclusion yesterday that my website’s loading speed and structure were causing issues, so I changed my theme, tried to install some plugins like WP-Optimize to speed it up. I’ve seen some mild improvements but nothing huge.
I have a good knowledge of SEO and how to make things rank well but my knowledge under the hood of how a website works isn’t as great, so I’m trying to find some solutions.

1) What can I do to improve the performance of my website?
2) How do I fix the CLS issue ? It’s something I can’t seem to figure out or sort out because I don’t massively understand how its affecting the website and what I should be looking out for.
3) Jetpack – how good is this thing? It’s constantly flip-flopping when I ask it for a speed score and can’t seem to keep it stable or high. It’s got a very poor mobile score (anywhere between 25-40) and a decent Desktop score (50-70) but obviously, a large portion of traffic is mobile so I need to improve this side of things. I’m not sure how reliable or trustworthy it is and whether its worth keeping.
4) My most popular posts seem to get the most issues, with CLS issues occurring on mobile.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Question: realy life experience when you go to the site, does it load ok ? SEO is not impacted on speed, conreary to popular opinion… i can assure you of that as I have learned that doing actual SEO on websites and ranking them.
Fix CLS with defined dimensions. Width and height of anything that can cause the layout to shift on load. Jetpack is mildly helpful. The only reason I use it (and give it to my clients) is cause i get it for free. If I had to pay for things like the backup function I wouldn’t. NEVER CLICK THE FIX THREAT LINK, EVER. It only removes the offending plugin and theme, and doesn’t actually fix anything. Update whatever the threat is, but don’t “fix threat.”
Dont’ use pagespeed insights, use gtmetrix or [webpagetest.org](http://webpagetest.org) for page speed testing. The data will be more accessible and actionable.
