Page builders: love them or hate them?

[ad_1]

As a senior WordPress developer, I’ve seen both sides of the argument. On one hand, page builders can make it easy for non-developers to create complex websites without needing to know how to code. On the other hand, some argue that page builders result in poorly-coded websites that are slow and difficult to maintain. What do you think? Are page builders a necessary tool for building WordPress websites, or do they do more harm than good?

  1. I tolerate them. Most clients I have are using a page builder so I work with what they have. If I’m making something from the ground up then I’ll stick to blocks (Gutenberg). Builders really aren’t necessary if you’re using a good theme, especially a block-based/FSE theme.

  2. Not a developer here but a (poorly) self-taught website manager. Mine and my Club’s. I’m retired, but my background is in IT management and data management before that. I’m familiar with sql and I can write a functional app, but it won’t be pretty.

I both love and hate builders.

I love them because I’m able to manage my sites. I hate them because I know it could be better and the numerous plugins are either underutilized or limiting what I can do. I don’t think I’ll move away from the builder anytime soon because I don’t want to have to document the site more than I have already and it needs to continue once I’m gone.

    So…another data point.
