Hi geeks,
My question is about transitioning a website (in this instance http://www.testament-und-erbe.de which is react/next.js) to WP.
We are pretty heavy on content and are using Strapi as headless CMS – which is a bit of a pain. It just seems like every time we need something it is a lot of work, while existing modules in WP would do the trick. I am a developer myself, so I understand how React/Next.js is the bee's knees for web apps but for our project, I like to use WP from now on.
The issue is that we need to launch the new site page by page without ruining our google rating – this seems to be quite a challenge, at least my SEO is telling me that. I thought, a simple 301 would solve that, but maybe not?
What are the possible issues and how can I avoid them?
I got a managed WP server at https://www.hostpress.de/ … the project is in Germany, so having the server there is good for GDPR reasons.
If you think it is possible to gradually change from the current page to WP, would the roadmap look something like this?
- create a suitable WP instance and the basic plugins to optimise performance
- create the WP template (emulation the look of the current page)
- create the first (not super important page) page and swap to test?
- transition page by page
The current page is hosted on vercell. Can that create issues / opportunities?
Many thanks in advance for the help 🙂
Cheers
Michael
