People like to say Yoast is bloated. Is that true? Is there a front runner for SEO plugins these days?

A developer on a project has pushed back on the proposal to install Yoast SEO for our SEO needs citing his research suggests people report Yoast is slow/non performant. I believe he wants to go with [The SEO Framework]) at the moment.

I have seen various mentions around Google about people claiming Yoast slows down their site, but they seem more opinion and less backed up with testing comparisons. So it’s hard to say conclusively.

I’ve been out of touch for a while on WordPress plugins. Is there a front runner SEO plugin these days that is performant, less resource intensive, and provides key features like meta data, sitemap, schema,
search blocking, social meta data, etc.?

This will be a higher traffic site, and I support the methodology to use resource efficient plugins, but I want to make an educated decision.
