Performance issues for ~5 years: should I give up and switch to an alternative?

[ad_1]

I’ve been running a publication since 2013. The site used to be able to handle 100K+ hits a month, but since it’s 2015 it’s been choking even at 10K/month.

I didn’t give it full attention at first since it wasn’t my primary focus, but I’ve been trying to fix it for about 2 years now and nothing works. Details:

– I’ve installed all sorts of performnace plugins, caching tools, CDNs etc.
– The issue always seems to be server response time – which ranges between 3-4s. Other metrics like FCP, LCP etc also always remain bad.
– I’ve also upgraded the server recently – a VPS with 8GB RAM serving 3 sites including this one. The other two sites are practically dormant, only generating 1-2K hits/month combined.

GTMetrix gives the site an E and pagespeed score on mobile is in the 30s.

Site is: yaabot .com

Should I just give up and go to Ghost or something? Are there any truly superior alternatives that are reasonably priced?
