I’m a bit stuck here. In essence, I’m looking for a Mediawiki-style site with the ease of users contributing, however, I’m overwhelmed with the Mediawiki set up and I realize it might be overkill for what I’m trying to do.
What I’m trying to do: Users can create an account and can then submit content on certain pages. I like on wiki styles sites the content is live immediately, but I realize that may not be possible with wp unless they are a legit contributor and have access to pages.
What I’ve looked at:
* **Mediawiki.** Pros: People will recognize the look and navigation. Free. Cons: Not wp, so I’m starting at zero knowledge. Wiki editing is still a bit archaic. Getting the wiki set up with customization looks far more difficult than any wp install.
* **Buddypress.** I am not familiar with this but it looks like it’s geared more towards forums.
* **Form + ACF.** I saw a post in this sub about using a form and then having it hit ACF. This might work but I need to think about it more. If anyone has experience with this set up, please share.

I’ve done a lot of community sites and collaborative sites. It’s all about the editorial process and workflows for editorial. If you are going to allow users to just submit content, which you will then revise and aporove you can just use generic wordpress. Buddypress is good (not great) for users reviewing other submitted content, although you can still do a lot here with generic wordpress. ACF should only be used if you are going to add/modify specifc fields. You can use CPT-UI to do all of your custom post types (most of which might not need ACF). There are a lot of other memebership and editorial workflow plugins which are great, and you can even restrict people to certain post types. My overall recommendation is to plan out your workflows as much as possible and do a few weeks of research to find the right solution.
