I’ve asked this question before, but last night I realized maybe I’ve been asking it wrong or misunderstanding the terminology, so hopefully, I’m starting to get on the right track.
I need to set up a way to allow users to register, login, creation of a user profile, user ability to edit the profile, and interact on the site. Interact meaning to create posts in specific categories/CPTs. If they could private message each other, that would be great but not 100% needed, at least not yet. The register and login forms need to be set as a lightbox or tooltip type style instead of a unique page.
Is this a complicated thing to accomplish? I feel like almost every site under the sun has the ability to do most of this so I assumed it was simple, but I sure can’t figure it out. Maybe it’s not simple at all.
So far the plugins I’ve tried are Ultimate Member, MemberPress, ProfileGrid, UsersWP, and as of yesterday WSForm.
For one reason or another, none of them work. I couldn’t get the user registration to work on any of them. Either they don’t send the email verification on registration or don’t have the option. Other problems were that pre-built forms weren’t editable in style or content or user profiles weren’t editable to include what I need.
What am I missing here? Should I be looking at a commerce plugin? I’m assuming Woocommerce has the user account thing nailed down, if not the rest of it. I don’t need a commerce setup, but like I said maybe I’m looking at this the wrong way.
Or is the problem itself that something like this shouldn’t be done on a WordPress site? Maybe beyond the intended scope?
Wow, this ended up longer than intended and I still feel like I’m missing something. It’s been 12 months off and on of attempting to figure this out, so I’m only a little bit frustrated haha.
