Hey all, I have a writing website where I upload short stories in posts.
I have an archives page that shows all the posts by newest, and a search function that uses the categories system. I did not make the page myself, and the person who did make it is not contactable.
I have three main categories, Universe, worlds, year.
If I search for a specific world it will give me some results, but not all. If I select multiple it shows all within the more specific search, but I was just wondering if it is possible to have it that people can search just one category and get all stories in that category.
Example:
I have 45 stories for the world Hollow
40 of those stories are in universe one
5 of those stories are in universe 2
And they are spread out over the years 2016-Present
If I search for just Hollow I only get around 8 stories show up, but if I search in all three categories I will get the correct number for the search.
Any help would be much appreciated, sorry I have not explained this well, I am not website literate.

Yes, it is possible to make a search category specific. But how to implement that depends on your site, and how the custom search feature was coded. Does your site use a child theme?
*”if it is possible to have it that people can search just one category and get all stories in that category.”* – that sounds like a normal category page? e.g. /category/cats will show all posts in the “cats” category
