Post template to Post template

[ad_1]

Hello everyone,

I'm working on a practice website in WordPress, and I have a question. I've spent quite some time searching for information, but I couldn't find anything clear.

To be brief, is there a way to switch from one post template to another while keeping the post's information?

For example, I have post A, which is currently displayed with template 1. I want to show the basic information of post A using template 2, which displays additional information added with meta fields.

Is this possible? I tried using URL parameters, but I think I'm missing some knowledge. If anyone has an answer, I would be very grateful

  1. What type of theme are you using? Classic or Block?

What do you mean by “basic information”?

  2. Typically a template defines how information is going to be shown, whereas a post defines what information there is.

If your second template defines that some types of information won’t be shown (e.g. certain fields, the featured image and so on) or abbreviated (e.g. a post abstract instead of the full contents), then that will affect how the post will be shown.

The information will still exist in the database though.

Problems may arise if you start putting contents inside templates, especially if multiple people need to work on a WordPress site – not all of them will be able to edit templates.
