preloading jquery — hardcoded vs Asset Cleanup

[ad_1]

I figured out how to preload jquery and I put the code in my header.php template. THEN I discovered that Asset CleanUP will also preload jquery, if you tell it to.

Hardcoding the preload, it’s render blocking, but Google’s PageSpeed Insights gives me a speed index of 2.1. Using Asset CleanUp, it’s *not* render blocking, but PSI gives me a speed index of 2.9.

First, how does Asset Cleanup make it not render blocking? And second, Why would page load be slightly slower when it’s no longer render blocking?
