prevent “mega-” prefix on menu “CSS Classes (optional)”

Surprisingly I’m not finding this issue in a forum search. Hoping someone can assist.

When adding a class to “CSS Classes (optional)” field of a menu item in the menu editor, the Max Mega Menu plugin will inevitably prefix the specified class with “mega-“. I want to add FA icons to top-level menu items by adding – for example – “fa-home” to the “CSS Classes (optional)” field in the menu editor. This results in the class “mega-fa-home” being added instead, and thus not applying the icon.

Is there a way to easily override this behavior? Can be done with JS, I suppose, but I’m hoping there’s a simpler, cleaner and non-JS approach.

Thanks all.
