Problem with Gmail SMTP

[ad_1]

I just started working with an organization. Their website is using WordPress which with my very limited coding knowledge I’m usually able to troubleshoot.

They have a form on their site. People fill in name, email, and some other questions. When they click submit an error message comes up saying “Server error. Form not sent.” Which causes people to fill it in multiple times.

The thing is that the form is capturing the information properly. I see it all in the plug-in Elementor’s section called Submissions. It just isn’t sending an email to one of the organization’s emails like it’s supposed to. From all the reading I’ve done it seems like everything is set up right, it’s just that something is blocking the email form being sent.

When I go to Settings and select Gmail SMTP, I don’t know if any of the information is entered correctly. And I don’t know how to check. All I know is that when I try sending a test email from there it gives me a long entry of code with “SMTP Error: Could not authenticate” and “SMTP connect() failed” included.

Is anyone able to point me in the right direction? What should I be checking? How do I authenticate properly? What don’t I know that I should know? Any advice would be appreciated.

  1. Sounds like either the gmail login details have changed, or if it’s using the token method you needs to reestablish the connection. Also, I’ve had experiences where google has randomly disabled smtp for clients using GSuite.
