Having someone work on a word press site and she wants to access the database to correct any issues. I’m trusting her but want to know what type of “corrections” she’s referring to.
She did mention cleaning up previous installations. Can these be deleted?
So far access hasn’t been given. Nobody else had asked this when looking for a programmer (or whatever you are called when setting up client WordPress site?
\- Apologies in advance, I’m not familiar with the terms

No one I know just goes in the WordPress db to “clean up”.
I’m not saying it’s shady, just not standard practice.
If she wants to delete unused tables from old plugins etc she can do that through WordPress with a plugin like WP Optimize
I wouldn’t consider this request that unusual.
You could give her access, but the bottom line is, if the person already has file access, the database credentials are in the wp-config file. That’s usually good enough to do pretty much whatever you wanna do.
If to “cleaning” stuff no need to do from database, as other says its shady. What type of website u got? Woocommerce? If so probably she’d like to take your clients’ data or put backdoor in case you both in bad relationships she could just enter undetected and nuke your website.
Yes, I always need access to the database. First, to back it up. Second, to run repair and optimization through phpmyadmin.
There are many techniques to optimize and clean up the database. I personally clean up all the autoload data that gets left over from plugins.
If they are asking for DB access then they are on a different level and know what they are doing.
