Rebuilding from an old cPanel backup

[ad_1]

I have a cPanel backup that contains sql files and a wordpress directory. Everything is in the name of the previous developer. I have a degree in CS and have done some web development, and I more-or-less get how a wordpress installation is structured. Any tips on restoring or rebuilding the

Things I have tried:

  • Install and configure apache2 to serve the old website locally; results in a 403 Forbidden response

  • Contacted the hosting provider for assistance in restoring from a backup (didn't work)

I'm trying to figure out what to do next. I know that I can repopulate the database via phpmyadmin using the backup .sql files. Curious to know what others' approaches would be.

Thanks for any help!

  1. Have you attempted to import the sql into a database using phpmyadmin? That is a critical step.

Once that’s done, you then need to input the various db settings into the wp-config.php file that lives in the website root.

That should give you access to then load WordPress, or at least /wp-admin. From there, login and go to Settings > Permalinks to regenerate the htaccess file. Then you should be back up and running.
