Has anyone noticed a recent spike in contact form spam? I have about 5 WP sites (no captcha) and the last 4-5 days my inbox is getting a ton of contact form spam each day. Not necessarily looking for a fix (I know some kind of captcha will help)–just wondering what if others are experiencing the same.

Probably spammers got back from vacation or something 
I love all the spam from Eric Jones and “talk with leads” (or whatever re-bradning they use these days)…. I have a custom handler on most of my sites that look for his name and just kills the request.
I had this happen on some sites I was using a free plan of Akismet on with Gravity Forms. They deemed them to be commercial sites (they kinda are) and blocked the API. If I want to block spam I would have to pay for Akismet.
Your websites may be listed in one of their spam database. Once they are listed, you get more spam. Our clients websites used to get a lot too. We added captcha but didn’t stop most of them, so we switched to OOPSpam.
Cleantalk helps prevent spam entries
Use Cloudflare turnstile plugin. Sign up on Cloudflare and put site address ,you wil get key. Put that key in the said plugin above. Once done you can use CF turnstile to protect site from spam. Don’t forget to choose managed option while creating CF turnstile key.
