recipe cards appear in duplicate on all themes

It sounds like you might have “Automatic Snippets” enabled on the WP Recipe Maker > Settings > Recipe Snippets page but have a regular recipe template selected instead of a snippet template. Try changing the default snippet template to “Snippet Basic Buttons” on that same settings page.
