Recommended Site Optimization + Security Plugins

[ad_1]

I have a web dev working on my site to fix the optimization issues and it seems like he doesn’t know what he’s doing. I have a site built with elementor pro and a cloud flare CDN. I have WP-Rocket and imagify installed, but the site speed is still bad. Only about 25 plugins installed. My stats are about 15s page load and 15K+ blocking time.

I originally had jetpack working, but couldn’t connect it with FTP to scan. We installed wordfence instead, now I’m getting soam emails even with the captcha activated.

I’ve spent a lot of money on trying to fix this problem and need someone who knows what they’re doing to help me figure this out. Anyone have experience with this that can recommend a good optimization idea and also the best security plugin?

  1. Just to add— all my images are compressed, the backups are sent to Google drive and not stored on the site, and I removed excess blocks from elementor and adjusted margins instead to reduce coding.

  2. A web developer should be able to nail down exactly which elements are causing the slowdown (this can be done in the browser). 15s is insanity. Also, IMHO, 25 plugins is a ton. It’s very very very likely that at least one of them is the culprit.

EDIT: A troubleshooting method you can do to find the bottleneck is to deactivate the plugins one by one and check the page performance each time.

  3. What’s the URL of the site? It’s not difficult to open the dev tools and see the load times of everything.

  4. You mentioned you are using BlueHost.
Most of the performance issues are hosting related.
I highly recommend to move away from BlueHost. There are many better options out there. One of them is to use Cloudways.

It’s a good thing you are not using JetPack. WordFence is pretty good in terms of security. You also mentioned that you are getting emails despite having captcha.
If you are getting spam from your contact forms then look into the backend based spam filters like OOPSpam. It doesn’t load any JavaScript or use cookies unlike captcha so that will help with performance too.

  5. From just a quick look:

    Are you using Slider Revolution?
Try to find out what is your dependence on JetPack then move away from it.
