Redesign of clients current website

Are you only designing the new site & expecting their developers to build it, or are you also planning on building the new site/theme?

If it’s the former, good luck!

If it’s the latter, then I think you need to learn more about the process before you start trying to do it for anyone else, otherwise you’re going to end up in a situation that you don’t know how to deal with, quickly.

As an example: **no, you don’t just tell them to delete their old site and then start building them a new one.**

If you’re going to build a new site, you do it as a development site on a subdomain/different domain and leave their existing site alone until the new one is done. Once they’ve seen & approved the new site on the temporary domain, then you can move it to the real domain.

Before you start this process, you need to ask yourself at least these questions:

1. Have you ever done an install of WordPress from scratch before? Using an installer like Softaculous doesn’t count
2. Have you ever moved a WordPress install from one domain to another?
3. Have you ever “built” a site from scratch, either using an existing theme as a base or by building an entirely new theme?
4. Are you familiar with basic SEO and aware of the effects of deleting/moving pages?
5. Have you thoroughly examined the existing website to make sure you are including all existing/necessary functionality, SEO efforts, etc.?

What do you mean by redesigning it. It sounds like you are offering to remake a website without recoding it? If you remaking it then yes you should delete the old one, it would be especially hard to remake a website over the current one.
In this case I would keep the page names and redirect any deletions to the relevant area or homepage.
