I am about to begin redesigning my website via my Subdomain ([dev.\*.co.uk](https://dev.mywebsite.co.uk)) and then once completed, it will then completely overwrite my existing website.

I am doing this on a fresh WordPress install and will be changing themes and reducing the amount of plugins I use dramatically to help with page speed. I will be keeping the exact same URL structure of existing pages, but will be adding two new pages.

I currently use Yoast SEO but on some other websites I have built I have used Rankmath and prefer that. Now when I am building my new website, should I install the Rankmath plugin on my Subdomain prior to overwriting my existing WordPress install and current live site? I am just a little confused how it would all work SEO wise. If I just install a fresh SEO plugin on my Subdomain and submit a new sitemap, would that overwrite all my existing Google Search Console data etc?

My current live site hasn’t been live for that long so in all honesty I’m not too worried about losing any SEO standing I am moreso just curious how it would work on the Subdomain?
