Hi @gavinstockden
I’m having a problem with installing Woocommerce on a new site. Every time I try to activate the plugin it says (in Firefox)
“The page isn’t redirecting properly. This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.”
I tried in Chrome, also gets an error. WordPress is on latest version. I tried disabling all plugins. Still happens. I tried changing the theme. Still happens. What do I do now?
From what I understand, you’re trying to install WooCommerce on your new website, but you’re running into a redirect error message in Firefox and a similar issue in Chrome. This is happening despite updating WordPress, disabling all plugins, and changing the theme. Let’s try a few potential solutions:
- Clear Browser Cache and Cookies: Your browser might be storing outdated information. Clear your browser’s cache and cookies and try again.
- Check PHP Version: WooCommerce needs PHP version 7.4 or higher. Make sure your server is running a compatible version of PHP.
- WordPress Permalinks: Reset your WordPress permalinks. You can do this by going to “Settings > Permalinks” in your WordPress dashboard and clicking “Save Changes.”
- Ensure Hosting Requirements are met: Your hosting provider should meet certain server requirements for WooCommerce. Check the WooCommerce server requirements to make sure your host is compatible. 👉 WooCommerce Server Recommendations
- Verify your site and home URLs: In your WordPress settings, confirm that your site and home URLs are correct. You can find these settings in the Settings > General section of your WordPress dashboard.
- Check for a theme or plugin conflict: Even though you’ve already disabled all plugins, it could be helpful to test with a default WordPress theme like Storefront to rule out any theme-specific issues. Here’s a helpful guide on how to test for conflicts: 👉 How to Test for Plugin and Theme Conflicts
If you’re still having the same issue after trying these steps, could you give us more details? Are there any other error messages? What version of WooCommerce are you trying to install? Any additional information about your hosting environment would be helpful.
Thanks for your understanding and cooperation. We’re looking forward to helping you further with this issue.
Ha. I think resetting permalinks seems to have solved the problem. Thank you so much!
