Replacing Elementor template-by-template

[ad_1]

I love Elementor for small sites. It just works for my team, which includes non-developers who can help manage reasonable site changes.

That being said, it seems remarkably inefficient with queries on larger tables. I have a news site with ~200,000 posts, and need to display widgets that return 3-5 posts, with taxonomy and post date filters, all over the home page, side bars, and category pages. My server is a beast, and caching helps tremendously, but I have TONS of slow queries logged from those Elementor post widgets.

I suppose I could spin up a staging site and rebuild a theme without Elementor, but this will be a nightmare with my client. That’s a lot of invisible work up until I’m ready to show it to them, and even then, ideally, it looks exactly the same – just without the slow queries.

I’d rather work on replacing templates incrementally. Can I build out templates without using the page builder (Hello theme) for things such as the search result page? A sidebar that is included in Elementor pages via shortcode? Eventually, the home page?

I’d love to hear from anyone with experience mixing Elementor and native templates, or anyone who knows how to go about this.
