Reverting an optimized image back to the original

[ad_1]

I have been using an image optimizer plugin (WP Fastest Cache) that has a backups option where it makes a copy of original images in a separate folder prior to optimizing. With this backup option enabled, I can revert every optimized image back to the original with the click of a button. Without this option enabled, I cannot revert optimized images back to their original using the plugin. I know this is true for Imagify, etc. and other optimization plugins. My question is why I need this backup setting enabled (It takes up a ton of extra space on my server.)

When I go to wpcontent/uploads, I can see the original .jpg images I uploaded, so I know they weren’t altered and are still live on my server. The original .jpg uploads also appear linked to in my posts. (If I needed to generate new thumbnails, etc. later, I could do so using a plugin.)

Thank you in advance

  1. What if you change themes in the future and you need to regenerate thumbnails for the thumbnail dimensions of the new theme?
