Sending emails directly from my server via phpmail (and getting good scores)?

Normally it’s not recommended to just send from WordPress without a proper setup. Emails for contact form notification, order confirmation, .. which are sent from WordPress will very likely end up in spam. It’s recommended to use a proper email service provider (like Postmark for instance)

However, my hosting provider uses outbound filtering through Mailchannels. I just send directly from the server and tested it with []( and I get incredibly good scores.

Do I still need a proper SMTP setup for those websites? I thought the only reason for it is reliable deliverability, but if the mail-tester is showing good results it’s probably given
