Sense check – DB backup size

[ad_1]

Hi WordPress community,

Recently I’ve been involved in a WordPress project. Setup years ago, and right now it needs a bit of a refresh.

It’s a simple setup on a high level – mostly used to serve documents to users – let’s something like document with legal rules etc. There are 1000s of docs, and they are then posted as new pages with quick description what the doc is about etc.

I’ve made a backup of WP and I wanted to run it locally to have a freedom to test new plugins without breaking it etc, and also test new managed hosting options.

What surprised me was the size.
Uncompressed backup was 60GB+ and the SQL dump almost 1GB,

I wanted to check if that is a common db size, or I need to dig deeper why this is so big?

Any tips more than welcome.
