Sharing content across multisite mag/newspaper site.

I’m setting up a small magazine/newspaper site. I’m in the building stages, setup the multisite, got the template setup, etc. the structure going to be, art.xxxxx.com, events, food, news sports, etc. so I got two questions.

1. As I understand it the user base is the same across the multi site so users will have same account credentials from one subdomain to the other. Is that correct?

2. How would I be able to link or get the the articles from the subsections to the main page. regardless of the hottest articles or the manual check articles from each section?

P.S. any recommendations for plugins for newspapers sites in wp, I’m all ears!
