Slow dashboard torture is killing me

[ad_1]

Long story short, I inherited this WP site several years ago, and have been making edits here and there over the intervening years, but at this point the dashboard is brutally slow, literally taking minutes sometimes to switch a tab or save a change. Query Monitor just showed 30 php errors (!) and 28 slow queries (!!), many of which come from The Events Calendar plugin. Site Health often shows API Request errors, and recommends adding a persistent object cache, but I did install WP Super Cache – could I have set it up incorrectly? Database size is around 22MB, which doesn’t really sound like that much to me, but is that ridiculous? I don’t have a baseline to compare with. PHP memory limit is 128MB (256 for admin screens).

What’s my next step? Some of the stuff is from before my time; though I know it’s using WordPress 6.1.1, and the server is using php 8.1. WP is definitely not my strong suit, and my poor client is very non-tech savvy. Help! She just asked me about Squarespace!
