So my “additional CSS” just disappeared

[ad_1]

Site owner, not a developer.

I’ve had some weird issues the last few days since updating to WordPress 6.1, including the author selector from the edit page disappearing, and a number of fatal PHP errors which caused me to restore my site from a backup on Coudways twice (though clearing the cache on Object Cache Pro seemed to stop PHP from falling over).

However, this evening I went to check something in additional CSS to find it completely blank.

My plan right now is to restore an UpdraftPlus backup from late october in a staging copy of my site to get the custom CSS back, but has anyone seen something like this happen? Is there a way for me to check if the CSS from that area is still in use on the site?

Could this also be related to the new version of wordpress, or is it more likely something going wrong when I restored the backup?

  1. It sounds like the backup didn’t go as intended. Maybe a theme conflict with that version.

The ‘additional CSS’ you’re mentioning is just a field on your theme settings somewhere. Maybe on specific pages? I couldn’t know without seeing where it’s set.

It might exist in the database somewhere, but you’d have to know the theme you’re using, and where to dig for it.

When you restore your back-up it should be there. Assuming the full DB was backed up properly.

Before you update to WP6 next time, just copy all the info in the field/setting and save it a code editor or something. Then after the upgrade paste it back.

Not much else to do, these things happen.
