So how comes I launched 2 websites. One is a blog where I post about tech and software the other one is my web design portfolio. As soon as they went online I received at least 20 emails from strange accounts that want to help me promote my website or business? I just insert the email on the website and I got over 20 emails in 12 hours. How is it possible? Is there an index that show recently launched websites were these bots or maybe people hang to spam the crap out of new websites or wtf? How can I protect myself? I suppose the only way is to create a contact form and use captcha…
Yep this is basically why contact forms exist. I recommend Cloudflare Turnstile, it’s effective and doesn’t get in the way of real submissions
Yeah, we all get this bullshytt all the time. Ignore.
It’s crazy cause I wanted to let people know what my email address is if they want direct contact but noooo, hundreds of messages
If you want to display your email address in your site, you have to obfuscate it. This will make the address appear normally in the page but scrambled in the source html. The easiest way is to put your site behind Cloudflare and enable email obfuscation. Several methods and their effectiveness is documented here: https://spencermortensen.com/articles/email-obfuscation/
That’s common. And with bots and stuff, it’s getting crazy. You can add a contact form with captcha and also IP filtration.
