Since March this year, I have been hit every Friday by spam traffic to my “Home page/Archives”.
I have spent months trying to figure out how to identify the source and stop it, but I’m still scratching my head. The only things I have been able to work out are that:
\- The source is in the US.
\- It starts at the same time every Friday morning, 9am here in Barcelona, which is around midnight in LA.
\- It usually sends between 300-600 hits to my “Home page/Archives” over the course of around 5-8 hours every Friday.
\- It is coming directly and not via a search engine, etc.
I understand that “Home page/Archives” could mean they targeting any number of tag/category pages (neither of which show in search results), so I can’t tell if it coming to something specific.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for how I could identify it and stop it? Quite frustrated as it’s clearly fake traffic, and I’m worried it could be affecting my site’s performance in some way, which has dropped in recent months (but that could be for a variety of reasons).
Have included a screenshot of my stats so you can see how clearly the difference is to my traffic every week.
